Shri Omkareshwar Mandir Trust

Prior to the independence of the country, Shri Omkareshwar Temple was a private temple under the ownership of the royal family. The last ruler of the royal family was Raja Rao Saubhagya Singh Ji, son of Maharaja Rao Yashwant Singh Ji, and the management of the temple was carried out by the royal family itself.

After independence, Rao Saubhagya Singh Ji constituted the Shri Omkareshwar Public Trust. On August 11, 1957, the public trust was formed under Section 6 of the Registrar Public Trust Nimar Khandwa Act, declaring its property as a public trust and declaring Rao Saubhagya Singh Ji as the trustee of the temple trust. In accordance with a compromise in its legal proceedings, the Honorable District Court of Khandwa passed an order on January 19, 1967.

As per the said order, the trustee of Shri Omkareshwar Temple Trust will be appointed from the royal family itself. From the funds received as offerings and donations at the temple, after meeting the expenses for the development of Omkareshwar, worship rituals of the temple and other temples, salaries of employees, and charitable assistance, a share of the net income shall be paid to the Managing Trustee as remuneration.

Seven trustees are appointed to manage the temple trust:

1. Rao of Mandhata as the Managing Trustee
2. A trustee nominated by the Rao of Mandhata
3. Two trustees nominated by the Registrar of Public Trusts
4. A trustee nominated by the District Panchayat of Khandwa
5. A trustee nominated by the Block Panchayat of Punasa
6. A trustee nominated by the Nagar Panchayat of Omkareshwar
